HERE IT IS ... THE IMAGE THAT LAUNCHED A MILLION
MAGAZINE COVERS, RECORD JACKETS AND TEE SHIRTS.
It’s an original 8x10” print on doubleweight matte finish photo
stock that once belonged to filmmaker Laurence Merrick. Anyone
familiar with Manson lore knows that Merrick was the director of
the 1973 Oscar nominated documentary “ Manson”, which featured
exclusive appearances and music by the loyal remaining Family
members after Charlie and several others were convicted of murder.
Merrick was the one who convinced the Family that he wanted to tell
their story and help them glorify their idol. He supplied the girls with
guns and knives and urged them to speak of bloody revolution to
make his film more compelling … but all the while he was also
courting prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi and law officials to get their
unbridled co-operation as well. When the Family members saw the
final result, they strongly resented the overt anti-Charlie tone of the
project and in a very short while Merrick was brutally murdered.
Police, of course, initially suspected the Family, but it was soon
learned that Laurence was actually slain by a disgruntled male
student with whom he had become involved while teaching a film
class in his spare time. This photo is from Merrick’s personal
reference photo collection and has his official credit stamp on the
rear (also pictured below ). A once-in-a–lifetime original image
that's ideal for framing up with a Manson letter or art piece.

Original Manson picture from the filmmaker Laurence Merrick collection and stamped on the back, this is the picture that gave birth to all the Manson pictures on the cover of the LIFE magazine. ULTRA RARE
